Thalía Ariadna Sodi Miranda, 26 August 1971, Mexico City, Mexico. One of Mexico's most popular singers and actresses, Thalia first started performing at the age of nine with the children's act Din-Din, appearing with the group at festivals and on four studio albums. She moved on to the teen pop group Timbiriche in 1984, singing on three of their albums and appearing in front of record-breaking audiences throughout Latin America. During this period Thalia moved into acting with roles in the soap operas La Pobre Señorita Limantour, Quinceañera and Luz Y Sombra. She recorded her self-titled debut album with producer Alfredo Diaz Ordaz, and building on its success relocated to Spain to co-host the variety show VIP De Noche.
Thalia's breakthrough came about playing Maria in a trilogy of soap operas between 1992 and 1995, Maria Mercedes, Marimar and Maria La Del Barrio. All three shows enjoyed high rating figures in both Latin America and the USA. Further success followed with her 1995 album En Extasis, which achieved platinum sales and consolidated her reputation as one of Latin America's brightest stars. Amor A La Mexicana repeated the success of En Extasis, and the same year the singer was honoured with Thalia Day by the city of Los Angeles. She made her Hollywood debut in 1999 with a role in Mambo Café. Her 2002 self-titled album included a selection of English language tracks. The following year's collection, also going under the title Thalia, marked her English language debut proper.
